Title: New Models for Large Scale Biobanks
|
UK Biobank is a prospective cohort study of 500,000 people from the UK aged 40-69. This large sample size coupled with the rich phenotyping of participants will mean that in the next few decades it will provide uniquely reliable insights into the causes of a wide range of diseases that cause death and misery in old age and beyond. The study has recently completed recruitment of the cohort in around three years and the presentation will review how the lessons learned from UK Biobank and other emerging cohorts can be applied to create a worldwide network of biobanks to better understand the causes of major diseases in different populations. |
