Biosketch:

 

-

Graduated from Faculty of Medicine Cairo University (December, 1957).DCH (1960)

 

-

Ph. D. Human Genetics, Johns Hopkins University Baltimore Maryland, U.S.A. (February, 1966), was the first from Egypt, Middle East, Arab World and Africa to obtain this degree.

 

-

Founder of Department of Human Genetics (1977), later the Division of Human Genetics and Genome Research in 2003.

 

-

Has more than 250 peer reviewed articles.

 

-

Coauthor of the Book (The Genetics of Hand Malformations), Temtamy S.A. and McKusick V.A (1978).Alan R.Liss.USA

 

-

Author of a book in Arabic (Human Genetics: The present and the future) by Al Ahram Press (1997 and 2009)

 

-

Author or coauthor of chapters in books, the most recent :( Genetic Disorders among Arab Populations), Editor Ahmed S.Teebi, Springer 2010

 

-

Discovered new genetic syndromes which were added to the medical literature.

Member of the Editorial board of the European Journal of Human Genetics and the World Journal of Medical Genetics

Collaborator with Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population for introducing Human Genetics as a practice and in initiating newborn screening for inborn errors of metabolism in Egyptian newborns.

Organized and participated as an invited speaker and gave inauguration lectures in numerous International and National Conferences.

President of the National Society of Human Genetics-Egypt, member of IFHGS

Winner of numerous scientific awards: Award of Scientific Distinction in Medical, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences in the National Research Centre(1987),Award of Scientific Appreciation, National Research Centre (1977).

 

Highest State Prize of Merit in Medical Sciences (2000).
