Biosketch: Dr. Al-Allawi is a Professor of Hematology and the Head of Departments of Pathology and Hematology/Oncology at the faculty of Medicine, University of Dohuk, Iraq. He is also in charge of medical molecular research at the scientific research center of the latter University. Dr. Al-Allawi obtained his MBChB from the University of Baghdad-Iraq in 1980, thereafter his MSc and PhD degrees in Hematology at the Universities of Baghdad and Manchester-United Kingdom. Dr Al-Allawi trained and practiced at the Manchester Royal Infirmary-UK, Medical City teaching Hospital in Baghdad and finally at Azadi Teaching Hospital in Dohuk-Iraq. His special interest is inherited hematological disorders for which he established a research group which tackled the task of molecular characterization of these disorders in Iraqis. He has authored or co-authored around 40 papers in International and Arab medical journals. He initiated in 2006 a regional Hemoglobinopathy preventive program in northern Iraq (the first in his country), which he is currently supervising. |
