Biosketch: Dr. Kawano received PhD from Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in 2002. He then pursued post-doctoral studies as a Visiting Fellow at National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, and JSPS Research Fellow in Biomedical and Behavioral Researchers at NIH in the laboratory of Dr. Gisela Storz (2002-2006) where he studied small, noncoding RNAs in E. coli. In 2006, he joined Functional RNA Research Program, Frontier Research System at RIKEN Yokohama Institute as a research scientist (2006-2008). He is currently a Research Scientist at RIKEN Omics Science Center, and developing technologies to investigate gene expression network at single-cell level, and miRNA and pre-miRNA by deep sequencing. He is also interested in functional small RNAs in sperm that are transmitted to oocyte at fertilization. He is a member of the Research Ethics Committee in RIKEN Yokohama Institute from 2009. Dr. Kawano has received awards including Letter of Appreciation from the President of RIKEN and Nature Chemical Biology Award in the 21st International Mammalian Genome Conference. |
