Title: Next Generation Sequencing Technology for Targeted Resequencing

Rapid technology development and accessibility of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms are enabling targeted resequencing, exome resequencing and whole genome sequencing applications. The 5500 Series SOLiD™ System for genome-wide discovery studies along with Ion Torrent™ PGM semiconductor based sequencing demonstrate our long-standing commitment to providing innovative technology platforms to accelerate human disease research. A brief overview of the Life Technologies' sequencing system offering will be presented.
studies, including GWAS and linkage studies, have led many researchers to embark on targeted resequencing projects of defined regions of the genome across a large number of samples. The power of targeted resequencing will be highlighted by reference to recently published data, with special attention to exome resequencing (for example, Haack et al 2010, Hoeschien et al 2010 and Krawitz et al 2010). Several recent publications have demonstrated that the causative mutations for individuals can be identified by resequencing the exome, thus demonstrating the ability of using an NGS approach for population-based analysis or for a personalized analysis of disease mutations.
