Biosketch:

Dr Jay Shin is currently a research scientist at Omics Science Center (OSC) RIKEN, Japan. After he acquired BSc. in computer sciences from Boston College, he joined Harvard Medical School and then ETH Zurich, Switzerland to complete his Ph.D. in cell biology. In 2008, he joined RIKEN as a foreign postdoctoral research (FPR) fellow to contribute in developing the Life Science Accelerator (LSA) system: Expediting the interpretation of OMICS data into biological applications. He is now working closely with drug industries to provide therapeutic and marketable solutions using OMICS data.

The major research focus of my unit is developing technologies and methods to interpret complex sets of OMICS data in an experimental setting. This includes research in cellular functions and phenotypes based on predictive gene regulatory networks and studying them in various cancer, stem cells and cell-reprogramming models. The unit works closely with teams of bioinformaticians and cell biologists at RIKEN Omics Science Center.
