Biosketch:
Professor Hanan Hamamy is currently affiliated with the Department of Genetic Medicine and Development at Geneva University Hospital . Her research interests focus on community genetics and consanguinity health impact. She has a long experience in genetic counseling in Arab countries mainly Jordan and Iraq where consanguinity rates reach 40% and has encountered many consanguineous families harboring rare or not previously reported autosomal recessive genes. She participated in several World Health Organization consultations and co_authored several WHO publications on community control of genetic and congenital disorders, ethical issues in medical genetics, and prevention of birth defects in developing countries. She has recently organized an international meeting on Consanguinity in Geneva and created a network of collaborations for the utilization of consanguineous samples for the discovery of disease_related genes.
