Biosketch:
Dr. Bassam Ali is an associate professor in Molecular and GeneticMedicine and the leader of the Genetics and Development Research Priority Group at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University. Dr. Ali obtained his BSc and MSc degrees from Yarmouk University in Jordan and PhD degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge where he was the recipient ofSaid Foundation scholarship. Subsequently, Dr. Ali worked as at Imperial College London and University College London before joining the UAE University in August 2006. His current research interests are: (1) Elucidation of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying human genetic diseases (2) The identification of disease genes responsible for rare recessive disorders in Arab populations and (3) The regulation of cellular trafficking in eukaryotic cells. Dr. Ali published over 40 articles in international refereed journals and he is on the editorial board of the Journal of Medical Sciences. Dr. Ali is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of several societies including the American Society for Cell Biology and the European Society for Human Genetics.
