Biosketch:
Awarded the American Federation of Medical Research Outstanding Investigation Award 2002; European Society of Human Genetics Science Award, 2005; the 10th International Congress of Inborn Errors of Metabolism Outstanding Physician Award, Japan, 2006. I was honored at the House of Commons, United Kingdom, as one of the distinctive international speakers, 2007. Nominated for King Faisal International Prize in Medicine 2008. Was given the Distinction Medal by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia 2008, also given Distinctive Arab Female Scientist Prize, the Arabian Gulf University, 2009. . Awarded King Faisal Distinction Wissam by The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullaha Bin AbdulAziz January 2010.

I have described a new Genetic Syndrome, which carries my name. This has been published and reviewed in the prestigious Nature Genetics journal as “the first genetic evidence for the understanding of human growth and development”.

I am actively involved in research and research grants in translational genomics for implementing improved health services , including:

 

1.

Pre implantation Genetic diagnosis for the prevention of genetics disorders Co-Principal Investigator - involved in 50% of the research activities

 

2.

Embryonic Stem Cell development for therapy of genetic metabolic disorders- Principal Investigator- awarded 35 millions Saudi Riyals by King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.

 

3.

Treatment of Genetics disorders at the molecular level- Principal Investigator, submitted to King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology.

 

I presented over 100 papers to National and International meetings, been invited to lecture at Havard Medical School; North Western University; Mount Sinai School of Medicine; Yale University; University of California, Irvine, USA; World Health Organization Geneva; University of Oslo and Medical Advisory Board of Biotechnology, Norway; National Institute of Health, USA; Wellcome Trust Foundation, Cambridge, UK; Biovision International congress, Bibliotheca Alexandria; Human Variome Project meeting, Spain; tissue engineering International Congress, Bibliotheca Alexandria. I published over 70 manuscripts in peer reviewed, journals; presented over 100 abstracts and over 100 invited speeches.

I have established ethical Frame work for research and patient care in Genetics and Genomics in the Muslim world, published that in Nature Genetics. I also established international policies for the Human Variome project in collaboration with international colleagues.
